Getting Started with Wake
What Wake does
Wake displays issues from a Jira saved filter in three connected views:
- Main: a table of the selected issue fields.
- Grouped: nested categories, issue counts, and configured numeric aggregates.
- Chart: a chart driven by the gadget configuration or an interactive Analyzer using the configured fields.
All three views use the same loaded issue set. When Wake displays a partial-data banner, every total, grouping, chart, and export on that load uses the partial set.
Before you begin
You need:
- access to a Jira Cloud dashboard where you can add or configure gadgets;
- access to at least one Jira saved filter; and
- permission to view the issues and fields selected by that filter.
Wake requests Jira data as the current user. A viewer cannot use Wake to bypass Jira issue, project, filter, or field permissions.
Add Wake to a dashboard
- Open the Jira dashboard.
- Use Jira’s Add gadget action.
- Find Wake and add it.
- Open the gadget menu and choose Edit or Configure.
- Select a saved filter and complete the field configuration.
Jira navigation labels can vary by product release and administrator configuration.
First configuration example
Suppose a filter returns support issues and you want a priority breakdown:
- Filter:
Open support issues
- Columns: Key, Summary, Priority, Status, Story Points
- Group by: Priority
- Metric: Sum of Story Points
The Main tab shows the issue rows. The Grouped tab organizes issues by Priority and shows the configured total. The Chart tab can plot issue count or Story Points by Priority.
Understanding loaded versus matching issues
Wake may display a count such as 500 of ~2,400.
- Matching issues are estimated or reported by Jira for the saved filter.
- Loaded issues are the records Wake actually received.
- Free loads stop at 500 issues.
- Paid/trial loads are not subject to Wake’s 500-issue Free cap, but Jira rate limits, permissions, or transient errors can still interrupt a large crawl.
Use the partial-data banner as the authoritative indicator. Do not treat a partial aggregate as a complete audit, financial statement, or compliance record.
