Espresso for Jira Cloud

Espresso is a Jira workflow post function that calculates a numeric target field from two numeric source fields whenever an issue completes a configured workflow transition.

Example:

Quantity x Unit Price -> Total

Espresso is built on Atlassian Forge and is currently configured as a Free app.

Supported operations

• Add
• Subtract
• Multiply
• Divide

The field picker includes Jira fields whose schema is reported as number, float, or currency.

Important behavior

• Espresso runs after the workflow transition.
• It recalculates only when the configured transition fires.
• It does not watch ordinary field edits or backfill existing issues.
• Empty source fields are skipped, not treated as zero.
• Divide by zero and non-finite results are rejected.
• The target must be different from both source fields.
• Espresso does not intentionally round; Jira applies the target field’s supported precision.
• The configuration screen shows up to 10 recent outcomes for the rule’s field triple.

Development

Prerequisites:

• Node.js compatible with Forge nodejs22.x
• Atlassian Forge CLI
• Access to the Espresso Forge app and a Jira Cloud development site

Typical validation and build:

npm ci
npm run verify
npm run build

Deployment command defined by the project:

npm run deploy

npm run verify checks the shared configuration contract, runs Vitest, and runs forge lint. The Custom UI build is produced from static/custom-ui.
